고려대, 2023 모의유엔개최: 전국 중고교대학생들과 함께 빈곤과 기후변화를 논하다 Korea University, 2023 KMUN (Korea Model Unite Nations): Discussion upon the Global Agenda Regarding the Poverty and Climate Change

고려대 세계지역연구소 국제기후해양거버넌스센터와 고려대 탄소흡수원특성화대학원은 7월 14일(금) 오전 10시부터 ‘빈곤과 기후변화’를 주제로 2023년 모의유엔 (Korea Model United Nations (KMUN) 2023)을 개최했다. 이번 행사는 송상현국제정의평화인권재단, (재)서울국제법연구원 기후환경법정책센터(CSDLAP), (사) 한국기후변화학회가 공동 주최했다. 2023 KUMN (Korea Model United Nations) under the theme of 'Poverty and Climate Change' has been hosted by both the Center for Global Climate and Marine Governance of Global Research Institute and the Specialized Graduate School of Carbon Sinks of Korea University at 10 am on Friday, July 14th. It was co-hosted by Song Sang Hyun International Justice, Peace and Human Rights Foundation, Seoul Institute of International Law Climate and Environmental Law and Policy Center (CSDLAP), and Korea Climate Change Academy. 7월 14일(금)부터 16일(일)까지 진행되는 2023 모의유엔 행사는 기후변화·환경·빈곤·인권 등 국제 사회 구성원 간의 협력이 필요한 사안들에 대해 다룰 예정이며 전국의 중고교생 및 대학생 약 120명이 참석했다. 이들은 WHO (World Health Organization)와 UNFCCC(United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change)의 커미티에서 토의를 진행했다. This 2023 UN Model event, which was held from July 14th (Friday) to 16th (Sunday), dealt with the issues that require the cooperation among the members of the international community such as climate change, environment, poverty, and human rights. Approximately 120 secondary schoolers and college students have attended in this event actively participating in the discussions in the committees of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United National Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). 이날 행사는 고려대 국제기후해양거버넌스센터장을 맡고 있는 정서용 고려대 교수의 개회사를 시작으로 송상현 전 국제형사재단소장, 마리아 카스틸로 페르난데즈(Maria Castillo-Fernandez) EU 대사, 신경남 글로벌녹색성장연구소(GGGI) 사무차장보, 앤 유프너(Anne Juepner) UNDP 서울정책센터 소장 등의 축사가 이어진다. 또한 송상현 재단의 김용덕 이사장(전 대법관)도 참석했다. This event was initiated with the opening remarks by Professor Suh Yong Chung, the head of the Center for Global Climate and Marine Governance at Korea University, and followed the congratulatory remarks by Sang Hyeon Song, the former director of the International Criminal Foundation, Maria Castillo Fernandez, the UE ambassador, Kyung Nam Shin, assistant director-general of Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), Anne Juepner, the director of UNDP Seoul Policy Center. Also, Yong Deok Kim, the former Justice of the Supreme Court of the Song Sang Hyun Foundation has also participated in this event. 이날 행사에서는 조태열 전 유엔대사가 기조강연을 맡았다. 유엔 외교를 이끌었던 조태열 대사는 국제사회에서 국제기구의 중요성과 우리나라의 국제기구 외교에 대해서 경험에 바탕을 둔 메시지를 전했다. 기조강연에 이어 정서용 고려대 국제기후해양거버넌스센터장이 기후변화 대응에 있어서 국제기구의 역할에 대해 특강을 가졌다. 가장 중요한 글로벌 어젠다의 하나인 기후변화 문제를 대응하는데 있어서 국가는 물론 비국가 행위자로서 국제기구 역할에 대해 강연했다. Tae Yeol Cho, the former ambassador to the United Nations gave a keynote speech in this event. Ambassador Tae Yeol Cho, who led the UN diplomacy, has delivered a message based on his experiences regarding the ROK international organization diplomacy highlighting the significance of the role of international organizations in the international community. Following the keynote speech, Professor Suh Yong Chung, the director of the Center for Global Climate and Marine Governance at Korea University gave a special lecture regarding the role of international organizations in responses to the climate change. He emphasized the importance of the role of international organizations as both state and non-state actors in responding to the climate urgency.

이번 행사를 주관한 정서용 고려대 국제기후해양거버넌스센터장은 “국제 사회 구성원의 협력을 이끌어내고 있는 유엔을 비롯한 국제기구의 역할에 대해서 전국의 중고교생 및 대학생들이 다양한 역할로 참여해 세계 곳곳에 새로운 변화를 이끌어내는 글로벌 리더로 거듭날 수 있는 계기가 되기를 바란다. 이번 행사를 준비하는 과정에서 고려대 국제학부의 국제기구학회 (KIOSS)와 같은 학생동아리가 적극적으로 참여하여 행사준비를 함으로써 리더십을 함양할 수 있는 또 다른 기회를 제공할 수 있었다.”고 행사 개최 의의를 밝혔다. Professor Suh Yong Chung who hosted this event remarked that "Regarding the role of the international organization including the United Nation that leads to the cooperation among the members of the international community, students across the country can actively take the various roles in international community to lead the new changes around the world as global leaders. Besides, KIOSS (Korea University School of International Studies) has also provided the leading students with another opportunities to develop their leadership in the process of preparing for this event. 3일간 진행된 KMUN Summer 2023은 위원회별로 정해진 주제를 토론하도록 구성됐고, 참가한 학생들에게 국제사회의 다양한 이슈들에 대해 서로의 의견을 나누고 국제기구의 역할을 체험할 수 있게 하여 세계 곳곳에 새로운 변화를 이끌어내는 글로벌 리더로 거듭날 수 있는 계기를 제공했다. 또한 행사를 준비하는 과정에서 고려대학교 국제학부의 국제기구학회 학생동아리 (KIOSS)가 적극적으로 참여하여 행사준비를 함으로써 리더십을 함양할 수 있는 또 다른 기회를 제공할 수 있었다.
KMUN Summer 2023, which was held for three days, was organized to discuss the global issues set by each committee and allowed participating students to share their personal opinions on the issues and experience the role of the international organizations to learn the lead the novel changes around the globe providing them with the opportunities to build their capabilities to become global leaders. The member students of Korea University International Organization Society Student Club (KIOSS) have also actively participated in preparing for this event learning to develop their leadership, which is one of the most meaningful aspects of this event as well.
