Professor Suh-Yong Chung, the Director of the Center for Global and Marine Governance (CGCMG) of Korea University launched the joint research project, “Rise of the Climate State: Analyzing Socio-legal Transformation in the Anthropocene” with Tilburg University of the Netherlands.

The project aims to have an insight in how social and legal system in high-income, highly industrialized, liberal democratic states will be changed as the states go through different aspects of social environmental transition toward climate neutral in 2050. The project analyzes climate plans and the policy networks in which there embedded in Brussels, Seoul, Tokyo and Washington D.C., and the CGCMG will lead the research on the Korean context from 1 June 2024 to 31 December 2028.

It is expected that Professor Chung’s interdisciplinary perspectives on international and Korean climate strategies will make meaningful contribution to this comparative study. Other distinguished academic institutions including Waseda University will also join the project as research partners.​
